Enrolment at Berne is by consultation only. As a last chance school for many adolescents, it is vitally important that the people accepted are at a level that is acceptable on social, personal, and academic grounds.

Fees
The fees for a student attending The John Berne School are as follows:
| Enrolment: | $60—payable at the initial interview, or with the completion of the application form. |
| Tuition: | $750 per term (x4) |
| Other charges: | $120 materials $30 Work Experience Insurance (Yrs 9 & 10 only) $20 Levies (CEC, NCEC, Copyright, ACSSS) |
| Total for one year: | $3250 |
